FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH: The Child Abuse/Molestation Catastrophe
No one can say the media has not been reporting the many reports of children being harmed (except in cases of PAS) by child abusers, child molesters, child rapists, and child killers. One just needs to tune in to the news from time to time. It never fails, "another one down" (another child molested, raped, or killed). It's a major catastrophe in America! Try as you will to protect your children, no one is immune from having a child abducted, molested, or killed.
Researchers say a child is reported missing every 40 seconds. Is that not a horrifying statistic?
Will others take on the challenge to protect children? One thing's for sure, parents are talking about it. Bloggers are up in arms about the horrendous details of the suffering of little Christopher Barrios. According to many of these bloggers, this child's needless suffering was too graphic for most adults to comprehend.
The terror that child molesters bring to children and parents is immeasurable. One might be hard pressed to find someone who would disagree that child rapists and child killers are comparable to the status of one who acts in terroristic ways. The dictionary's definition of a terrorist is "a person who terrorizes or frightens others." Snatching a boy off of his bike, brutalizing him in horrifying ways and then killing him, how can anyone, who has never experienced this, "fully comprehend" what must be the most incredible pain and grief for parents of children who have suffered to such degrees?
As we all know, this is not an undereducated problem, nor is it only a poor person's issue. Economic status has nothing to do with a child molester seeking or gaining access to a child. Offenders come in all forms—wealthy, middle class, and poor. And, only the guilty is responsible for the twisted and terrorizing behavior of the brutalization of children.
If this is not the time for serious talks about protecting children, then we may all be out of time. In light of such staggering statistics (a child abduction every 40 seconds), how many more news reports of abused, molested, raped, or murdered children will there be? It is the hope of the Safe Child Custody team that no child abducted, raped, murdered, abused in any way, will ever be forgotten.
